Daniel Marsili

Daniel Marsili retired late 2020 as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of Colgate-Palmolive Company, a $16Bn public global consumer goods company dedicated to Oral Care, Personal Care, Home Care and Specialty Pet Nutrition, where he was responsible for leading the Company’s HR function and had responsibility for more than 35,000 people worldwide. Daniel had been with Colgate for 30 years, was elected a Corporate Officer in 2005 and served as CHRO from 2005 through 2020. He currently consults with for profit and not-for-profit organizations assisting them with leadership development, best practice in Human Resources Strategy and in growth and development of their reach.

Prior to his leadership role as CHRO, Daniel held a succession of HR roles at Colgate that included corporate strategic roles and leading divisions in Africa/Middle East, Latin America and North America. Additionally, his career assignments have included leading compensation, benefits and labor relations and was elected a Corporate Officer in 2005. Before joining Colgate, Daniel held HR management positions with PepsiCo and the Hyatt Corporation.

Effective January 1, 2023 he will assume the Presidency of the National Academy of Human Resources (NAHR) where he was inducted as a Fellow in 2012 and has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2019. Through a rigorous peer review process, NAHR recognizes individuals as Fellows who have distinguished themselves through their leadership in the broad field of human resources. It also recognizes select organizations and institutions. Through its not-for-profit Foundation, NAHR sponsors a Chief Human Resources Officer Academy, Fellows in the Classroom program, and an array of scholarships that support students committed to human resources careers.

In leadership roles outside Colgate, for 5 years he chaired the Steering Committee of the Human Resources Policy Institute at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business where in 2020 he was elected a lifetime Fellow. He also was a co-chair of the Gartner CHRO Global Leadership Board. In 2017 he was invited to join the Board of Directors of Miracle Foundation, an international non-profit that brings life-changing care to orphaned and vulnerable children around the world, where he continues to be an active Board member.

Daniel is honored to be a member of The Black Experience Advisory Board where he can action his passion for racial justice and equality and where he can participate in celebrating the contributions of Blacks and African-Americans in the twentieth century and beyond. The Black Experience is dedicated to using social media to deliver educational content that exposes people of all ages to positive and uplifting stories of successful Black Americans with the mission of being part of the change to end systemic racism.

Daniel holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst’s Isenberg School of Business and a JD from Loyola University School of Law (New Orleans), and lives with his family in New York.

Specific Accomplishments as Colgate-Palmolive CHRO

Led all aspects of global Human Capital Strategy for all businesses in over 200 countries and territories with responsibility for 38,000 employees and direct accountability for 600 Human Resources professionals and a $300MM annual budget. Senior business partner to Chairman/CEO and entire leadership team. Highlights of his 15-year CHRO term include partnering on the succession planning process for two internally placed CEO’s (2007 and 2019), having served the company under 3 CEOs total.

Managed two major 3-5 year corporate Restructures resulting in significant operating model changes and division structures. Each event poised the company for organic growth and acquisition. Streamlined (750 to 600) the Human Resources function while significantly upgrading the global quality of the organization to drive modern business partnership and increase service levels through automation, technology enhancement and shared services (Mexico & India).

Significantly enhanced the company’s learning culture and leadership development through investment and innovative programs, and its external reputation as a best place to work and top company for leaders – awards annually received in North America and in many major countries. Partnered closely with the Chief Sustainability Officer to ensure Colgate’s ESG strategy aligned with its Human Capital Strategy and that Colgate People were at the center of its Sustainability mission. Demonstrated ability to drive collegial and productive C-suite relationships, Board trust, and to work closely with a Chairman/CEO to safeguard and enhance corporate culture.
